Running
So the new pair of running shoes I bought ELEVEN days ago finally hit the street tonight.
It was the very first time I have been home in the daylight, albeit fading daylight, since the begging of the month when we started working on the cafe/studio.
Since buying the shoes I picked up the iPod sync kit and started my short run off by calibrating it to my walking. Although I’m wasn’t sure it was accurate because it seemed the 2 tenths of a mile walk up the hill to calibrate it seemed to hit two tenths before I thought it should. But I ran the one mile loop after that and it seemed right on the money for the one mile. It was also fun hearing when I was at a half mile and that I completed the mile in 12 minutes 36 seconds.
Granted I then came in the house and didn’t run anymore but I am thrilled that it is synced up and should be easy to use this as my new spendy personalized pedometer.
Having not gone on a run for several weeks, maybe closer to a month, I was thrilled by the even pace, easy breathing and could have / should have kept going.
Next run scheduled for Saturday morning, rain or shine.
What do you know
I have a fitness and weight loss blog. One I have abandoned as much as everything else lately.
The Fast (from last month) worked to squelch the sugar cravings, until I was PMS’d again.
I bought new running shoes on Sunday and they are the kind you can put a chip in and sync up to your iPod.
I am buying the chip on Friday (Payday) and will sync up my iPod and workouts.
In the mean time, I’m fat and cranky and pms’d and oh so pleasant this morning. It’s a cranky that I know I would feel better if I got some endorphins going but still haven’t fit in a workout in over a week.
Tonight will be no better, I am working at the studio tonight and then going to dinner.
July Numbers
Besides not being able to get the table copied my performance for July
was not stellar. Better then no exercise however and still a weight loss.
About 7 hours for the month. That is about a 13 minute average per day.
August wont look quite like June but there will be an improvement.

boomerang
With Chari here for 11 days and then a wedding cake due there were legitimate reasons I haven’t gotten much exercise (so far) this month. However those “excuses” being over I have to get back on track.
It would be so easy to keep missing the workouts, I mean its not like I don’t have enough house work, yard work, garden work, pool maintenance and dog care to make more “legitimate” excuses.
However I am feeling better. That makes it sound like I felt bad, that’s not it. I am feeling prouder. Wait that makes it sound like I was ashamed. I am making progress, I am loosing weight. I am still getting projects done. Maybe not as quickly if I weren’t stopping in the middle to go for a run or ride the elliptical and do some weights but in my promise to take care of myself. Its just what has to happen.
Last week I didn’t loose everything from the 11 days Chari was here. But I also didn’t work out and baked a wedding cake all week (which includes required tasting of cake.) I did loose most of it so I am thinking with just doing what is now considered “my usual” routine, I should drop the rest and then some pretty quickly.
It will be hard but I can still make the 10% in 10 weeks if I really try hard. That will mean 2.5 pounds both this week and next.
June Exercise Totals
Attached is my chart for June. Trying to be cool like my friend Char who does this every month.
I did have one to copy from last November and December. Guess I got serious this time.
Almost 21 hours of exercise for the month.

Time
Well I’m done. By the times below from the web site, I only cut 25 minutes from last fall.
This doesn’t take into count the long wait for a porto potty or the about 10 minutes I had to take to stretch out my calf at about mile 10. I pulled my hip early on and then over compensating for that got a cramp in the calf of my other leg. It could have something to do with mild dehydration also.
The morning was tough. Up at 4 a.m. and ate my cereal and soy milk way to early in the day to eat anything. Got down town and parked about 5 a.m. Walked about a mile back to the shuttle pick up and stood in the cool morning and waited for the shuttles and then waited at the other end for over an hour for the race to start and another 37 minutes before I was able to go.
I was pretty stiff and cold by that point. Couldn’t really walk to warm back up because I was in the middle of a pack that were running. I started out to fast and got tired pretty quick. At about mile 2 I was running down a hill and thats were I pulled my hip.
But I kept going. I finished. Here are my times:
- Splits: 5 Km 10 Km 9 Mile Finish
- Times: 49:02 1:46:41 2:38:57 3:57:22
- Pace: 15:47 17:11 17:40 18:07
I didn’t do as well as I had planned, or even as well as I had hoped. But I shaved time off from the last one and I did. I finished it. I may do the one in November again, but I am not signing up right now. Since Char, Leslie and I decided to do the one last year I have been signed up for a marathon for a year and a half except the five weeks after finishing that one and signing up for this one.
Cool Gear
Well today I picked up the packet for the race tomorrow. It was exciting and bustling with activity and I was very proud to be going through with this even though it will not be nearly as much fun without Char there this time. There were all kinds of t-shirts, sweatshirts, running pants, shorts, hats, water bottle carriers, GU, all kinds of stuff. I didn’t buy any shirts and will be wearing the free one.
I am glad that the T-shirt is short sleeved as the run wont be as hot, however the start of the race may be cold and if the end is anything like the last one I’ll be wrapping myself up in the mylar blanket.
I certainly hope so because I am carrying very little. I know the last marathon was in November and cold and I wore a fleece (and walked 99.7% as I couldn’t run) but I had pockets for things like lip balm and ID and keys.
What I was looking for I found lots of them. I had been looking for one of these belts because, well I’m tired of trying to figure out what to do with my keys and such when I run and this will come in handy for dog walks even.
In this little belt, that is not supposed to bounce, I have cash, debit card, drivers license, lip balm, keys and my phone. I have decided to take the clip on I-Pod but if I need to put it and the headphones in there they will fit also.
Everyone keeps saying leave the music at home becuse there are bands every mile, but I run better with tunes so I am taking them just in case.

My race number is 22621 and the finish line will be streamed live here.
Found Some
Motivation that is.
Today’s motivation besides the fact that I simply tacked on a half mile to my run is the fact that a pair of trousers I bought in London last time I was there (2006?) I took the tags off today and am wearing.
I have officially dropped a size in the last 4 weeks.

Re-Focused
I had a fantastic walk with Char this weekend and was able to talk about my lack of motivation and admit to the bowl of frosting I ate while making a cake last week.
I also admitted that I know what it takes to lose weight. I have done it before. I just clearly haven’t wanted it as bad as say that bowl of frosting or putting working out before gardening, friends, napping, reading or anything.
The thing is the more time I make for working out, the more energy I have for all of the “other” things I put off exercising to do instead.
So we re-committed to ourselfs. My commitment was to lose 2% of my body weight this week, and 1% every week thereafter for 10 weeks which will put me at SO MANY MORE THINGS TO WEAR in my closet by the end of July.
Several days in and I have tracked my food on fit day for the last three days and I have worked out each day.
One of the other things I realized while walking and talked was that I have been so focused on the running, or rather the “attempting to run” that all my other enjoyable workouts I haven’t been doing either. Instead of doing weights or the elliptical trainer or anything else because if I was going to workout it SHOULD be a run. Well I was not getting any workouts on the days I couldn’t bring myself to run. So instead the goal is to just workout everyday. Some of them will be runs but more importantly is to move my every shrinking ass.
Today ended up being a run, and then some core work and stretching. Missy thought since I was on the floor and that is her territory I must need her assistance while stretching.

and another month down
Yes its been a month since I posted last. phooey.
I decided today when running that I am not getting this distance thing down. I have some sort of a mind/body block. Also I keep to the same routes because I am trying to measure distance.
Well its not working, I am not getting any further.
So I ran for 30 minutes today. I am going to add 5 more to that tomorrow and just work on building time. For some reason pushing myself for 5 more minutes doesn’t seem to have as much of a block as say another quarter mile.
There is barely a month until the 1/2 marathon. I am doubting myself but I don’t even want to elaborate on those thoughts.
So for now I’m working on time.
